BTS member V scores a very important hit this week on a Billboard chart with his latest release. The singer joined rising talent Umi on her song “Wherever U R,” which has become a fast smash, at least on one specific ranking. As the tune arrives, V makes history and ties one of his BTS bandmates.
“Wherever U R” debuts at No. 1 on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart this week. The tally ranks the bestselling individual cuts in the U.S. that Billboard classifies as R&B. According to Luminate, the single sold just under 4,600 copies in its first few days of availability.
As “Wherever U R” opens in first place, V earns his first No. 1 on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart. In fact, the tune marks his first placement on the tally in any position. V isn’t alone with his champion, and now that he rules the ranking, he matches a friend.
V is now only the third South Korean artist to hit No. 1 on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart. “Wherever U R” is just the second song featuring Korean musicians to rule in the history of the tally. In 2022, fellow BTS star RM pushed his track “Closer” to the peak position. That tune featured fellow South Korean/Canadian artist Paul Blanco, as well as British musician Mahalia.
Only a handful of South Korean musicians have been able to appear anywhere on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart, so V’s latest success is a big win for him. He joins not only RM and Blanco, but also stars like Jennie from the band Blackpink, Sam Kim, and a handful of others who hail from the Asian nation and who have landed a big R&B sales smash in the U.S.
This is a quiet week in America when it comes to new arrivals and sales, and the current situation may have been helpful in giving V a No. 1. “Wherever U R” also opens at No. 5 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart, bringing V back to the region. He’s now landed half a dozen top 10 hits on the tally as a soloist.
