BTS member V is back on the Billboard charts this week with a brand new hit. The superstar teamed up with Umi for the collaborative “Wherever U R,” which has become a quick win on a number of lists published by the company. As the tune arrives, V makes history and joins some of his bandmates with his first smash on one particular ranking.
“Wherever U R” debuts at No. 2 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. The tally ranks the bestselling tunes in America that fall under the genre labels of hip-hop, R&B, or rap. The track sold just under 4,600 copies, according to Luminate.
As “Wherever U R” debuts on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, V becomes the fifth member of BTS to hit the tally. The group itself has also reached the ranking, as have nearly all of the singers that make up the globally adored outfit.
BTS hit the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart back in 2019. That year, they landed their only win on the tally thus far–a collaboration with rapper Juice WRLD. The collaborative “All Night” peaked at No. 6.
The first member of BTS to place on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart as a soloist was Suga. Coincidentally, he managed the feat alongside WRLD, who by that point had already passed away. The late rapper’s “Girl of My Dreams” was a quick No. 1, making Suga the first South Korean artist to top the ranking.
In 2022, fellow BTS star RM earned his first–and so far only–hit on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. He was joined by fellow South Korean artist Paul Blanco, as well as British singer Mahalia, on the track “Closer.” That smash worked its way to No. 1 as well.
2023 was a big year for the members of BTS on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. Both J-Hope and Jimin reached the ranking with solo wins. J-Hope was joined by J. Cole, and the two sent “On the Street” to No. 1. Just a few weeks later, Jimin’s “Angel Pt. 1” also hit the top spot on the tally. Jimin was included on the track, which was a highly collaborative affair, as it also credited Kodak Black, NLE Choppa, Jvke, and Muni Long.
So far, only two more singers in BTS need to place one track on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart to round out the full group. The band’s Jin and Jung Kook have yet to score a hit, but they could do so in the future, as the BTS members are known for their ability to sell songs like few in the industry. As long as they mix up the genres a bit, they could easily land on the tally at some point.
