Yeontan, the cherished dog of BTS's V (Kim Taehyung), has passed away. V shared the sad news on December 2, 2024, through a deeply emotional message on his Instagram Stories.
In his post, V began by mentioning his latest release, "Winter Ahead," a Christmas duet with Park Hyo Shin, before turning to the topic of his beloved pet’s death. “Time flies, and it’s already December,” he wrote, according to a translation by Soompi. “The reason I’m writing today is because Yeontan has recently embarked on a long journey to the stars. I thought long and hard about how to tell you, but I felt it was right to share this with ARMY, who have always supported Yeontan.”
V expressed his hope that fans would remember Yeontan fondly, wishing for his happiness “even in the stars.” He closed the message with a heartfelt wish for his followers: “I hope you have a warm end of the year where you can tell your loved ones that you love them once more.”
Along with the announcement, V shared two emotional videos of him playing with Yeontan, set to C. James's song “Streetlights.” He also posted a photo of Yeontan on his main Instagram feed, writing “Mr. Kim Yeontan” alongside a black heart in the caption.
Yeontan, a black and tan Pomeranian, was first introduced to fans in 2017 during BTS member Jin's birthday livestream. Since then, Yeontan became a constant presence in V’s life, frequently appearing in vlogs, social media posts, and even music videos. The dog had a special cameo in V's “Winter Bear” video and played a major role in the visual theme of V’s solo debut album Layover, with Yeontan being the inspiration for the album’s artwork. In fact, when filming the music video for “Rainy Days” in Madrid, V used a dog double, as he couldn’t bring Yeontan along for the shoot.
In a 2023 video with Pixid, V opened up about Yeontan’s health struggles, revealing that the dog had undergone two unsuccessful heart surgeries. Yeontan’s passing marks the end of an era for V and his fans, and he will undoubtedly be deeply missed by all who followed their special bond.
