BTS member Suga has re-appeared as a model for Samsung Electronics, defeating much apprehension about his future with the brand.
On August 31, KST, the official social media accounts of Samsung Electronics Paraguay posted multiple images of Suga in an advertisement for Samsung’s “Freestyle 2nd Gen projector.”
These ads came out at a significant juncture, as many have been questioning the possibility of Samsung retracting its association with the BTS member in particular. These speculations arose out of multiple Samsung accounts removing Suga’s images from its accounts around mid-August when the rapper’s DUI incident became public.
Back then, Samsung Electronics Germany temporarily removed advertisement photos of Suga promoting the Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone on August 24, sparking speculation about his future with the brand. Samsung Deutschland also removed Suga’s pictures from a social media post shortly after posting it on August 15. Fans subsequently called for a boycott of the brand.
On August 28, KST, Korea Herald reported that a Samsung insider revealed the brand might decide to change ambassadors but would not take steps to exclude Suga from its campaigns immediately.
Regardless of their fandom, there are risks in having an ambassador that has caused controversy. There is a need to carefully consider their partnership.
