The MTV Europe Music Awards have been cancelled due to security fears and 'the state of the world' amid the war between Israel and Hamas.
The 30th annual music event is one of the industry's biggest awards ceremonies and was due to be held in Paris at the Paris Nord Villepinte on November 5. But a source told the Mail: 'It's with a heavy heart that it is being called off due to safety concerns and the ongoing conflict.'
This year's event was due to see performances from the likes of Jung Kook, of K-pop icons BTS, rapper Coi Leray, six-time EMA winner David Guetta and former Little Mix member turned solo star Leigh-Anne. Others in the line-up included Anne-Marie, US rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars and Nigerian singer Rema.
A spokesman for Paramount Global said: 'Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans, and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to life.
'The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration.
'With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning. We look forward to hosting the MTV EMAs again in November of 2024.'
