Jung Kook is back in charge of the Billboard Global 200 chart this week. The singer’s new single “Standing Next To You” opens atop the tally, which Billboard introduced in 2020, and which lists the most-consumed songs in the world based on sales and streaming data.
“Standing Next To You” is Jung Kook’s third No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200. His latest win helps him tie with Drake and Olivia Rodrigo for the third-most champions among solo artists. But when taking into account all of his leaders, including those he landed as a member of BTS, the superstar has now reached the summit with a milestone 10 tracks.
On his own, Jung Kook has collected three No. 1 hits on the Billboard Global 200, sending all of them to the peak spot this year. He started with “Seven” in July, which, coincidentally, ended up running the show for seven weeks. Not long before “Standing Next To You” opened in first place, “3D” also launched at No. 1.
Before he officially embarked on a solo career, Jung Kook already held the record for the most No. 1s on the Billboard Global 200. BTS still claims that bit of history, as the boy band has sent seven singles to the peak. The group has topped the tally with all of the following tracks: “Butter,” “Dynamite,” “Life Goes On,” “My Universe” with Coldplay, “Permission to Dance,” “Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat)” with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, and “Take Two.”
Jung Kook is the first musician to claim double-digit No. 1 hits on the Billboard Global 200. It may be quite a while before anyone catches up to him, as his closest competitors for this record are his BTS bandmates, as they already claim seven No. 1s. So far, none of them have reached the top spot on the list as soloists, though several have come close. Both Jimin and V broke into the top five with solo smashes in 2023.
