Jimin’s single breaks K-pop record for 50 million Spotify streams

Jimin of K-pop juggernaut BTS has been setting new records on the world's largest music streaming platform, Spotify, with his latest solo song, “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band.”

The song, which rolled out on June 28, became the fastest K-pop song to hit 50 million streams this year in just nine days since its release. The previous record was fellow group member Jungkook’s new solo single “Never Let Go,” which reached the mark in 13 days.

“Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” accumulated over 64 million streams in 11 days, as of Tuesday. On the day of its release, the song landed on the fourth spot on the platform’s Daily Top Song Global Chart, scoring over 8.64 million streams. It made the biggest success of this year’s K-pop songs after seeing 42.9 million streams on the Weekly Song Chart during the first week of July.

In the United States, the song debuted on 41 of the platform’s Daily Top Song US chart and climbed up to 36 the following week, which is the chart’s highest spot claimed by a K-pop song this year.

The song, which is part of his upcoming second solo album, “MUSE,” was released prior to the album’s official launch scheduled for July 19. Featuring rapper Loco, it brings together hip-hop and big band music for a vibrant rhythm, laying out a marching band-style vibe.

It swept several streaming charts, topping iTunes’s Top Song chart in 108 countries and regions on the day of its release. It also debuted on 88 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, which makes it his fifth time to make it into the chart with his solo act.

The singer’s second solo album “MUSE,” comes over a year after he launched his first solo album, “FACE” in March last year. The new album, under the theme of love, will unfold Jimin’s personal story of searching for a source of inspiration.

It will consist of seven tracks, including the title song "Who," along with “Rebirth (Intro),” “Interlude: Showtime," "Slow Dance (feat. Sofia Carson)," "Be Mine," "Closer Than This" and “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band.” The tracks and the music video for the title song will debut worldwide at 1 p.m. on July 19.

In celebration of the singer’s new release, the artist’s label Big Hit Music will hold a popup event “MUSE’ Smeraldo Garden” at Botanical Garden PH in Gangnam District, Seoul from July 22 to 28.

"'MUSE Smeraldo Garden,’ consisting of three floors, will allow visitors to directly see and immerse in the album’s concept. The space will visually embody the atmosphere of the new album and offer diverse content to provide a special experience for visitors,” the agency said.

Since starting his mandatory military service in December 2023, Jimin, who debuted as a member of BTS in 2013, has been serving as an active-duty soldier in the Army. Additionally, he is set to release the Disney+ original reality show, "Are You Sure?!," on August 8.
