Jimin may be headed for another hit on the charts in America in a few days, especially if his latest single keeps selling like it is at the present. The BTS singer’s “Who” is dominating iTunes, as more than a dozen versions of the track appear on the list of the bestselling songs in the country.
The South Korean superstar released his new album Muse on Friday (July 19). From the project, “Who” was selected as the new single, and it immediately became the most popular track on many platforms. Just a few days later, Jimin released a new EP with new remixes and interesting recordings of the title, and fans of the BTS musician are doing all they can to make it a sales win.
As of the writing of this article, 15 versions of “Who” appear on the U.S. iTunes chart. All but one of them are present inside the top 50, and most are performing spectacularly well.
Jimin fills half a dozen spaces inside just the top 10 on iTunes. All of his top 10 smashes on the American ranking are versions of “Who,” as his supporters are apparently willing to purchase any take on the tune.
At the moment, the original “Who” doesn’t find space inside the top 10. It was recently pushed out of the highest tier on the sales-only tally by incoming, just-released takes. The standard edition sits at No. 11.
Jimin’s Who EP includes reworkings of the song labeled with names like Acoustic, Rock, Shibuyakei, Funky, and something called Beautiful Mind. All of those versions are living inside the top 10 on the U.S. iTunes list. The instrumental also lands at No. 10.
It’s common practice these days for musical superstars like Jimin to drop a single, and then follow it up with new versions of that same composition. Sometimes artists will unveil one or two slightly altered takes of a new promotional cut. In other instances—such as this one—they produce 10 or more.
Billboard groups all versions of one title into a single charting entity. So, purchases of all the many takes on “Who” will fuel the track’s overall performance on the rankings next week. Sales of all 15 cuts that appear on the iTunes tally will help it become a Hot 100 win, as well as what may be a new No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart.
