BTS may be on hiatus as the seven members fulfill their military duties in their home country of South Korea and pursue solo projects, but fans are still buying their music in sizable numbers. The group scores another No. 1 album in America this week, but they don’t have anything new for their supporters–just old music on a new format.
The K-pop favorites debut their album Love Yourself: Tear at No. 1 on this week’s Vinyl Albums chart. The tally, as its name suggests, only focuses on the bestselling titles in the U.S. on the once nearly-dead format.
Love Yourself: Tear marks BTS’ second No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart. With one more win to their credit, they instantly double their total number of leaders on the list. Impressively, the boy band has only placed two projects on the tracking, and both have soared to the summit.
Despite the fact that they’ve been one of the biggest bands and bestselling acts in the U.S. for more than half a decade now, BTS is still relatively new to the Vinyl Albums chart. They debuted on the tally in January 2023 with another title in this series. Love Yourself: Her launched at No. 1 a little more than a year ago, becoming their first champion.
Love Yourself: Tear was recently re-released on vinyl, and fans clearly were eager to pick up a copy. The album was originally released in 2018, and since then, it has sold many thousands of copies. That fact didn’t stop BTS’ ARMY fan base from opening their wallets once again, with many supporters likely purchasing a second copy.
As Love Yourself: Tear opens at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart, it also returns to a number of other lists. The sales of the title on vinyl spurred it back onto at least three other rankings–ones it has already led before. The set is back at No. 92 on the Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the Top Album Sales chart. The project also returns to No. 1 on the World Albums roster.
