BTS is currently on hiatus as a group, with all seven members actively fulfilling their military duties back in South Korea. Despite this temporary break, fans of the global sensation continue to not only consume their latest music but also revisit older material, turning some of their work into a commercial success for the first time.
New to this week’s Top Album Sales chart is BTS’s O!RUL8,2? The set opens at No. 41 on the ranking of the bestselling albums and EPs in the U.S. This tally differs from the more closely-watched Billboard 200 as it only considers pure sales, excluding other forms of consumption.
O!RUL8,2? earns the loftiest debut on this week’s Top Album Sales chart. In a rather quiet week for exciting new releases in America, the absence of a single debut inside the top 40 is surprising. Only one other effort arrives higher than BTS that wasn’t present last time around–Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city. That set reappears at No. 38, though it is not a new release, and it has previously reached as high as No. 2.
The K-pop favorites don’t just score the highest debut on the Top Album Sales chart this week, they collect the only new entry on the tally. The 50-spot list includes several returning bestsellers—including titles from the likes of Nirvana, ABBA, and Morgan Wallen—but O!RUL8,2? is the only one that’s never appeared on the chart before.
BTS has now reached the Top Album Sales chart with a 13 different projects, including half a dozen No. 1 titles. The group has secured spots inside the top 10 with a total of 10 different efforts.
The band also earns their first new placement on the sales-only ranking in about a year and a half. BTS last debuted a title on the Top Album Sales chart in June 2022, with their set Proof. That title opened and peaked at No. 1, adding to their impressive total count of bestsellers.
O!RUL8,2? was BTS’s first EP, though it wasn’t the band’s debut musical release. The set arrived more than a decade ago, in September 2013. Despite its age, the title has been selling well recently as fans look to honor the band during their break. Notably, one of the EP’s songs, "Attack On Bangtan,” is also experiencing a surge. The cut returns to the World Digital Song Sales chart, landing at No. 4. This track had previously dominated the ranking, and it still ranks as one of BTS's 36 chart-toppers.
