As BTS continues its musical hiatus, fans of the boy band are still showing their love in the same way they have for so many years: by keeping the group on the Billboard charts. The septet returns to No. 1 on a ranking this frame, but they didn’t release anything new. Instead, their ARMY of supporters have collectively pushed one of their most beloved tunes back to the summit on a list they already know very, very well.
“Fake Love” by BTS returns to No. 1 on this week’s World Digital Song Sales chart. The tally tracks the bestselling tunes in the U.S. performed in languages other than English–but also not in Spanish, as those cuts are forwarded to the Latin lists.
According to Luminate, the company that collects consumption data in the U.S. and shares it with Billboard so the magazine may compile the charts, “Fake Love” sold another 2,705 copies in the U.S. last week. The smash has now sold just over 124,000 copies in the country since it was released more than half a decade ago. Those are pure purchases, too, not equivalent units, which are often used for various rankings these days.
As “Fake Love” conquers the World Digital Song Sales chart once again, it also finds its way back to another list that BTS has ruled many times in the past. The single reappears at No. 13 on the Digital Song Sales ranking. That tally also only takes into account purchases, but it is not language or genre-specific.
“Fake Love” is on the rise after the album it was originally featured on, Love Yourself: Tear, was recently reissued. The popular project reappears on a number of Billboard rankings this frame, as thousands of fans picked up a copy on vinyl. The bestseller was only offered on the format for the first time last month, and it became a quick success.
Released back in May 2018, “Fake Love” helped propel BTS to new levels of fame and success. At the time, the group was just starting to reach American listeners, and they weren’t yet the record-smashing, chart-dominating act they are today. The single became the band’s first top 10 on the Hot 100, and as it reached the highest tier on that tally, they made history as the first South Korean group to break into the competitive region.
“Fake Love” is not new to the World Digital Song Sales chart, nor the top spot on that tally. It already ranked as one of BTS’ 37 No. 1s, the most among all acts in the list’s history before this week. The cut is also one of their 117 top 10s.
